LOCKETTLED.AU HANDICAP (Race 7)
Sandown Best Bet - Race 7 No. 6 Pop Award
The four-year-old daughter of Shamus Award, Pop Award has shown plenty of promise in her short, four-start career. She ran the fastest closing splits of the meeting on debut at Sale behind the Group-placed Mare Kundalini.
She resumed this preparation off some sharp jumpout work and was very well supported by the big punters late in betting and again, ran the fastest closing splits of the meeting in fast time to score an easy victory.
Her last start at this track and distance was extremely impressive, beating an in-form Grahame Begg-trained Perfect Picture and did so with more in the locker, as Shinn only rode her out hands and heels to win. Expect she rolls forward and is hard to beat.
HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP (Race 2)
Warwick Farm Best Bet - Race 2 No. 4 Seven’s
The Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald-trained import Seven’s was impressive in two starts in France and kicked off her Australian career being well backed ($13-6.50) which was a good lead that he would run well and he did, settling last off a slow pace but ripping home in good splits.
The step up in distance is sure to suit him, as he won his debut in France over 2100m, so expect him to thrive and keep raising the bar as his opposition in this race all appear to have found their level and don’t look anywhere near as progressive as him.
DISTINCTIVE BLINDS & CURTAINS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (Race 4)
Strathalbyn Best Bet - Race 4 No. 5 Sun Flipper
The Justin Potter trained and ridden four-year-old Mare Sun Flipper was solid first-up when hard in the market in town at Morphettville and was just dropped for a really sharp turn of speed over the 1000m but improved sharply last start when in a fast-run 1100m contest.
Last start at this track and distance he led on a tempo that was 2.5L faster than the class average to the 600m and only went down in the final stride, running a terrific race and a rating that will be competitive here .
Verdict
Three best bets from around the country on Wednesday, February 19. The most confident play comes up at Sandown, with an in-form Mare attempting to make it three wins from three starts this preparation. A French import should improve up in distance at Warwick Farm.
