Monday racing is usually light on for action but today has three meetings around the country, including two in NSW at both Scone and Wagga and a solitary meeting in Queensland at Thangool. We have one best bet for all three meetings.

Scone Best Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Zucchero
The four-year-old gelding Zucchero, now trained by Paul Messara & Leah Gavranich this preparation was very well backed first-up off a long 352-day spell at Muswellbrook a fortnight ago at a distance that was short of his best.
He sat behind the leader, found a run up the inside at the top of the straight and drew away for a comfortable victory, posting a career-best rating whilst running the ninth-fastest last 200m and 400m of the meeting.
Expect him to roll forward from the wide gate and the step up in distance should suit. Messara/Gavranich and Aaron Bullock have a lethal strike rate when they combine, with 32 winners from 82 combinations at a 39% winning strike rate.
WORKSFORYOU SDRA EVERGREEN TURF CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW - CLASS 4 HCP (Race 7)
Wagga Best Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Cambar
The three-year-old Pierata Colt Cambar has an impressive record and brings in what appears clearly the best form into this race. He won nicely on debut, then ran terrific closing sectionals second-up, running his last 600m seven lengths faster than the class average.
He was freshened-up and won a Highway at Rosehill, starting $3.1 running fast time before his first failure last start in another Highway at Randwick. The run wasn’t a bad effort, just lacking a turn of foot so I like the fact that the blinkers go on for the first time today.
He has proven he can win off a freshen-up so the 51-days between runs poses no concerns for me and he gets in under the minimum weight after the 1.5kg claim from jockey Holly Durnan.
BILOELA BOBCATS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap (Race 2)
Thangool Best Bet - Race 2 No. 6 Moment Of Truth
The ex-Victorian four-year-old Needs Further mare has thrived since arriving in North Queensland. She resumed over 1300m first-up off a 151-day spell and settled worse than midfield in a slowly run race and ran a huge race, running the second-fastest last 200m of the meeting and her last 600m 8.3L faster than the maiden average.
The form from that maiden has really stacked up, with the winner winning in 0-55 grade since, the fourth-horse won their maiden next start and the third horse ran second behind Moment Of Truth when they clashed next too.
The last start win of Moment Of Truth was terrific and it was no surprise to see the market find her, she was backed from $1.80 into $1.24 and there wasn’t a moments worry for those punters who took the short odds as she won with a proverbial leg in the air and should take plenty of beating again today.
Verdict
The three best bets from around the country on Monday, February 17, 2025. The biggest staked bet comes up in race two at Thangool, with an ex-Victorian aiming to continue her winning ways in North Queensland.
